Ave Maria's 654-spot rank edge headlines trip to Fort Lauderdale
The gap that defines this one sits right in the rankings: Versus places Ave Maria, No. 67 in the NAIA, some 654 spots above U of Fort Lauderdale at No. 721 nationally. That national-rank listing exists because the two sides come from different divisions, with Ave Maria measured against a 96-team NAIA pool and Fort Lauderdale carrying no divisional classification of its own in this data. This is also a non-conference game despite the Sun Conference heading atop the page, so nothing in either program's standings is on the line.
Ave Maria brings a C- overall grade within NAIA, built on a defense graded C- and an offense that grades out D+, and a schedule strength that ranks 10th in the division, tougher than most of its NAIA peers. The Gyrenes are winless at 0-2, though, and their most recent insight is a sobering one: their first loss this season to an unranked opponent came against Cumberland TN.
Fort Lauderdale is also 0-2, and Versus notes the Eagles have now dropped back-to-back games for the first time since October 2025. The series has run entirely Ave Maria's way, three wins in three meetings since 2023, and Versus's projection points the same direction here, with Ave Maria favored 29-22 and given a 67 percent chance to win on the road.
