Hastings looks to add to Dakota Wesleyan's home swoon
Dakota Wesleyan still holds the long view in this series, up 11-8 across 19 meetings since 2007, but recent form favors the Broncos heading into Saturday. Hastings enters at 3-2 and Dakota Wesleyan at 3-4, with Versus placing Hastings 38th in NAIA and Dakota Wesleyan 66th, a 28-spot gap in the divisional rankings.
The profiles explain the gap. Hastings grades out at B across power, offense and defense, with rankings in the 30s in every category, though its power rating has slipped in each of the last three weeks. Dakota Wesleyan carries a stronger B- defense than its C- overall grade suggests, but its results have been erratic, swinging from a 34-point win to a 49-point loss this season. The Tigers have also scored noticeably better at home than on the road, which matters little this week since they travel, and their only home loss so far snapped a perfect 2-0 start there.
Versus projects Hastings to win 31-23, giving the Broncos a 70 percent chance against Dakota Wesleyan's 30. The result counts in the Great Plains Athletic Conference standings, with Hastings' steadier profile outweighing the Tigers' long edge in the all-time series.
