Apprentice's offense faces steep test against Methodist's defense
The clearest mismatch here sits on one side of the ball. Apprentice's offense sits at No. 716 nationally after being shut out for the first time since September 2017, and it now runs into a Methodist defense that ranks 190th in Division III and carries a D+ grade, the strongest unit either team brings into Saturday.
This is a non-conference game, and a cross-division one at that. Methodist plays in Division III, sitting 227th of 234 teams there with a D- overall grade after an 0-2 start that has the Monarchs on their first back-to-back losing skid since November 2025. Apprentice enters at 0-2 as well and carries the No. 718 national ranking, 491 spots behind Methodist's own placement in that broader pool.
Versus still favors Apprentice at home, projecting a 27-22 result and giving the Builders a 61 percent chance to win. The two programs last met in September 2016, when Methodist won 24-20, but neither team's current form points to a rout either way. With both sides winless and offenses far outpacing their defenses in the ranking gaps, the game figures to hinge on which struggling unit finds its footing first.
