D3 · Southern Athletic Association Non-conference
Berry's rank edge over Carnegie Mellon doesn't match its schedule
Strength of schedule is the number that keeps this one from reading as a simple gap. Berry sits 20th in Division III with an A grade across the board, well ahead of Carnegie Mellon's 36th ranking and A- marks, but the Vikings' schedule ranks just 95th in D3 while the Tartans have played the tougher slate at 44th. That difference does more to explain the closeness of Versus's projection than the divisional ranks alone would suggest.
Carnegie Mellon has not finished a season below .500 since 2014, a streak that lines up with the balance in its A- grades on both sides of the ball. Berry, meanwhile, has posted a winning record in 12 straight seasons and carries the highest Versus rating in the Southern Athletic Association, the conference under which this game is listed even though it is a non-conference matchup for both sides.
The two met most recently in September 2025, when Carnegie Mellon won 17-9 on the road. Versus now favors Berry at home, projecting a 32-21 result and giving the Vikings a 74 percent chance to win, but the schedule gap behind those numbers is the part of this matchup worth watching closest.
