Luther looks to stretch its mastery of Grinnell in Midwest play
The last time these two met, back in September 2015, Luther ran away with a 56-0 win, and Versus's model still likes the Norse to control this series this week. Luther sits at No. 145 in Division III, 41 spots ahead of Grinnell's No. 186, and the gap shows up across the board, with Luther graded C overall against Grinnell's D+.
Both offenses have struggled, Luther at D+ and Grinnell at D-, but Luther's defense checks in at C- compared to Grinnell's own C-, leaving little separation there. A shared opponent offers a clue to form: facing Illinois College this season, Luther escaped with a 1-point win while Grinnell fell by 10.
Home cooking matters for both sides. Luther scores notably better at home than on the road this season, and Grinnell shows the same pattern, which is part of why this projection is closer than the rank gap alone suggests.
Versus projects Luther to win 25-16, giving the Norse a 70 percent chance to beat Grinnell by the final margin of 9 in this Midwest Conference matchup.
