Stony Brook's four-game run over Bryant faces a projected one-point test
Stony Brook has owned this series, leading 6-1 in seven meetings since 2007 and riding a four-game winning streak that dates back to a 2018 Bryant win Bryant hasn't been able to answer since. Versus projects the Seawolves to make it five straight, but only by a single point, 29-28, in a game that counts in the CAA standings.
The numbers explain the tight call. Stony Brook brings the better offense of the two, graded B+ and ranked 37th in FCS, but its defense sits at a C and 75th, and its strength of schedule rank of 89 raises questions about how that offense has been tested. Bryant counters with a B- defense ranked 53rd and the CAA's No. 4 ranking, built in part on an upset of a Princeton team ranked 22 spots ahead of the Bulldogs in FCS. Bryant's own offense, though, is the weaker side of its ledger at a C grade and 77th in the division.
One wrinkle worth watching: Stony Brook has scored noticeably better at home than on the road this season, and this one is in Bryant's building. That split, more than the overall records of 4-3 and 5-2, may be the reason Versus sees this as a near coin flip despite the history running so heavily in Stony Brook's favor.
