Houston looks to tilt an even series its way against Oklahoma State

Oklahoma St#37 FBS · 4-1Away23
Projected23-34Houston 74% chance to win
Houston#17 FBS · 5-1Home34

Four meetings since 2008 have left Oklahoma State and Houston deadlocked at 2-2, with last year's meeting breaking sharply toward the Cougars, a 39-17 win in October 2025. Versus projects another lopsided outcome this time, with Houston favored 34-23 and given a 74 percent chance to win at home.

The ranking gap backs that up. Houston sits 17th in FBS, 20 spots clear of Oklahoma State at 37th, and carries an A overall grade built on an A+ offense and an A defense. The Cougars have been running away from recent opponents and just posted their biggest one-week ranking jump of the season, an 11-spot climb to get to 17th.

Oklahoma State is not without momentum of its own. The Cowboys are 4-1, their best start through five games since 2022, and have been pulling away from opponents in that stretch as well, grading out as A- on both sides of the ball. Their strength of schedule rank of 82 lags well behind Houston's 43rd, though, which tempers how much that record should carry into Saturday.

Both teams enter with just one loss, and the game counts toward the Big 12 Conference standings. Versus still sees Houston's offensive rank of 8th and defensive rank of 12th as the deciding factors over Oklahoma State's 25th and 35th in those categories, projecting an 11-point margin in a series that has otherwise refused to pick a side.
